Pre War
34 year old Jesse who was listed as a sheep farmer, emigrated to Australia on the SS Berrima via the Cape, departing London on 7 Jul 1927 and arriving in Fremantle on 15 Aug 1927. He was accompanied by his wife Lily and 11 year old daughter Joan. His enlistment form does, however, state that he served with the 16th Battalion in France. Had he emigrated earlier??

War Service
On 9 Oct 1939 Jesse enlisted at Subiaco in the 10th Australian Garrison Battalion. Promoted temporary Sergeant on 2 Nov 1939 in early 1940 he attended a 'Gas' School in Sydney, and on his arrival back at Swanbourne he was made acting Company Sergeant Major. On 26 Apr 1940 he was promoted Temp WO2. Jesse spent three days in the Rottnest Hospital in Aug 1940. On 13 Jan 1941 he was posted to the Gas School at Melville before on 20 Jan 1941 being posted to 'Y' Company of the 5th Australian Garrison Battalion. On 21 Mar 1941 he was appointed probationary Lieutenant, and had his rank confirmed on 27 Nov 1941. On 1 May 1943 he transferred to the 29th Australian Garrison Battalion
Transferred to Special Duty in Fremantle on 25 Mar 1942, on 22 Mar 1943 he was promoted Temporary Captain, with that rank confirmed the same day. On 1 May 1943 he transferred to the 29th Australian Garrison Battalion.
Jesse was transferred to Western Command Recruit & Reinforcement Reception Depot on 11 Mar 1944 where his appointment was terminated on 14 Mar 1944. He was then placed on the Retired List

Notes
A Sergeant Jesse Tudor of Slimbridge was taken prisoner by the Germans in early 1917 along with most of his company. Jesse's Officers record of service gives his civilian occupation as road worker.
