Pre War
On 11 Oct 1916 Alfred married Hilda Maud Buckingham (1893 - 15 Jan 1954) in St Mary in the Valley Church, Kelmscott. Hilda died on 15 Jan 1953. They had five children including: Elsie May Martin (1918 - 1993); Alfred (Henry) Martin (1923 - 1993); Joyce Martin (b.1926); Dorothy Martin (b. 1928) and Colin Stanley Martin (1933 - 1993). Alf was the butcher in Kelmscott in the 1940's.

War Service
On 19 Apr 1942 at Armadale, Alfred enlisted in the Volunteer defence Corps and was posted to the 3rd (Swan) VDC Battalion. On 28 Feb 1943 he was transferred to the 2nd (Fremantle) VDC Battalion and his service was terminated on 24 Jan 1944.
