Pre War

John had served during WW 1 with the 3rd Machine Gun Squadron in the Middle East. During 1926 John married Annie Irene Goodlet (1901 - 1998) in Perth. Annie died in Roleystone on 8 Mar 1998, aged 96.

War Service

On 22 Mar 1942 John enlisted in the Volunteer Defence Corps and was allotted to the 2nd (Fremantle) VDC Battalion. On 1 Jul 1942 he was appointed Lance Corporal in 'D' Company, and on 23 Sep 1942 he was promoted Corporal. Along with the rest of the battalion he was placed in Reserve on 1 May 1945.
