War Service
On 22 Mar 1942 in Armadale, Bernie enlisted in the Volunteer Defence Corps and was posted to the 2nd (Fremantle) VDC Battalion. On 1 Jul 1942 Bernie was promoted Sergeant in 'D' Company and a fortnight later on the 15th he was again promoted, this time to Staff Sergeant Company CQMS. On 22 Sep 1944 he was discharged at his own request.
