Pre War

David emigrated to Australia aboard the SS Moreton Bay, leaving London on 15 Jan 1911 and arriving in Fremantle on 15 Feb 1924.

On 21 Sep 1935 David married Sybil Constance Buckingham (1907 - 1990) in the Congregational Church, Perth. Sybil died in Roleystone on 14 Aug 1990. They had five children including Lloyd Cyril Gwynne (1947 - 1959).

On 22 Mar 1942 at Armadale, David enlisted in the Volunteer Defence Corps and was allocated to the 2nd (Fremantle) VDC Battalion. On 11 Sep 1944 he was discharged at his own request.
