Pre War
During WW1 Walter had served with the British cavalry in France. On 4 May 1924, a 31 years old shoeing smith Walter Charles Cann arrived in Fremantle aboard the SS Borda from London with his wife Gertrude (29).

War Service
In Armadale on 22 Mar 1942 Walter was taken on strength by 'D' Company of the 2nd (Fremantle) VDC Battalion. Promoted Sergeant on 14 Jul 1942, Walter was discharged on 13 Aug 1944 at his own request after 2 years, 145 days service.
Post War
Electoral Roll entries: 1949 - 1968 at Marmion street, Kelmscott, labourer; 1972 at 52 Schruth avenue, Kelmscott, retired. Gertrude had died in Kelmscott on 5 Oct 1975, aged 81
