Pre War

War Service

Initial training was in Bunbury before sailing to Egypt where he completed another month's training before moving direct to France.

He embarked on HMT Tunisian on 29 May 1916 in Alexandria and disembarked in Marseilles on 3 Jun 1916. He was sent to the 1st Division's Base depot in Étaples until 29 Jul 1916 when he was taken on strength by the 11th Battalion and allocated to 'D' Company. They were at the time in Berteacourt, having just come out of the front line at Poziéres.

On 10 Nov 1916 he was admitted to 2nd Field Ambulance with exhaustion and was returned to duty the following day. By 4 Jan 1917 Fred had developed bronchial pneumonia while in the trenches near Fleurbaix following heavy fighting, and he was admitted first to the 5th Field Ambulance, and then later the same day to the 36th Casualty Clearing Station where he died on Jan 27th 1917.

Notes

Name on Jarrahdale List and Memorial is given as Kelly FG. No person by that name enlisted, and FWV is the most likely match.
