War Service
A fortnight after entering camp Patrick was allotted to the 23rd reinforcement draft for the 11th Battalion. A month later he was transferred to the 22nd draft for the same battalion, travelling with them to England where they disembarked from HMAT A8 Argyllshire at Devonport. On arrival he was sent to the 3rd Training Battalion at Durrington to complete his preparation for service on the Continent.
On 3 May 1917 Patrick travelled to France and a week later, on 10 May 1917 he was taken on strength by the 11th Battalion. From 17 Aug 1917 until 3 Feb 1918 Patrick was detached to 1st Division Headquarters for duty with the APM.
On 2 Oct 1918 Patrick was seen by the 3rd Field Ambulance who transferred him the same day to the 3rd Australian General Hospital. The next day he was evacuated to England and on arrival he was admitted to the 2nd Western General Hospital in Manchester on 5 Oct 1918 with myocarditis and senility. Patrick was transferred to the 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital on 15 Nov 1918 before being granted furlough from 29 Nov until 13 Dec 1918 when he reported to No.2 Command Depot at [[Weymouth] to await a ship home. On his return to Australia he was discharged by the 5th Military District on 19 Mar 1919.
