War Service
Stan enlisted in the CMF at Claremont on 6 Jan 1942, and was then called up for full time service with the 108th Australian Independent Brigade Group Ordnance Workshop on 22 Jan 1942. From 19 Feb until 16 Jul 1942 Stan attended a course in Blacksmithing at the 4th Australian Army Trades Training Depot at Ascot and on completion he was a probationary Blacksmith Trade Group I. On 10 Sep 1942 Stan was transferred to the 55th Division Ordnance Workshop, but between January until the end of March 1943 Stan was primarily on compassionate LWOP.
On 20 Apr 1943 he was transferred to the 120th Independent Brigade Group Workshop. Stanley was again granted compassionate LOP from 3 - 5 Aug 1943 leading to him being transferred on 20 Aug 1943 to the 8th Australian Field Company. On 21 Sep 1943 he boarded HMT Nieuw Amsterdam for Melbourne where on 26 Sep 1943 he entrained for Wallgrove in New South Wales, arriving there on 27 Sep 1943. However, on 18 Nov 1943 he was transferred to the NSW Line of Communication General Details Depot for reassignment. On 20 Dec 1943 Stan was transferred to the 62nd Australian Corps Field Park Company, but following another LWOP period he was transferred on 29 Jun 1944 to the Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot for discharge on 30 Jun 1944 for Family Support reasons.
