Brief History
The 40th Australian Camp Hospital was raised at Narrogin in January 1943 from the hospital wing of the 109th Australian Convalescent Depot. It was moved to Northam in March along with the Convalescent Depot, but by June they had moved to Claremont where it was inactive. In September 1943 they were again activated, and it absorbed 40th Australian Camp Hospital in October. In November 1943 it had moved to Merredin where it absorbed the 125th Australian General Hospital.
In March 1944 they moved to Port Hedland with a detachment at Broome, and by May they had a detachment at Noonkanbah airfield. In August the unit moved to Broome, but by late 1944 the number of troops in Western Australia had declined tothe point that they moved to Perth in December and were disbanded in January 1945.
