Pre War
War Service
On 7 Mar 1941 William was enlisted in the CMF's 28th Australian Infantry Battalion (The Swan Regiment) at the Drill Hall, Mounts Bay road, Perth and he was called up for full time duty on 15 Dec 1941 following Japan's entry into the war. He attended a training camp from 15 April until 13 July 1941. After commencing full time duty William was detached to the 13th Field Ambulance (WW2 version) from 9 - 21 Jun 1942.
On 4 Mar 1943 he entrained for Adelaide, and was there on 12 March, before leaving for the Northern Territory on 25 Mar 1943, arriving there four days later. On 1 Jul 1943 he was classified as proficient and received a small pay increase. William was trade tested on 28 Jun 1944, and met the standard required for a Trade Group I Welder (electric). As a result he was detached to the 11th Australian Workshop & Park Company from 7 - 27 Jul 1944, and after returning to the 28th Battalion, was transferred to the 11th Australian Workshop & Field Company on 23 Aug 1944. William was transferred tot he 7th Australian Workshop & Park Company on 19 Oct 1944 and he remained with them until he was transferred to the Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot on 17 Jan 1946 to prepare for his discharge on 6 Feb 1946.
