War Service

Entered camp on 2 Jul 1917, but on 24 Aug 1917 he was sent to the Isolation Camp at Ascot Vale until 1 Oct 1917 when he entered the AIF Signal School at Broadmeadows in Victoria from 5 Oct 1917 to 15 Feb 1918. Victor travelled to England from Melbourne.

On arrival in England he was posted to No 3 Details Camp at Parkhouse before being transferred on 3 Dec 1918 to the Australian HQ element in England. Promoted Corporal on 1 May 1919 and acting Sergeant for a month in Aug 1919.

Married 19 year old Sarah Anne James at Ballylinn, Ferbane, Co. Offaly, Ireland on 17 Sep 1919 while overseas.

Given that he did not see service in a war zone, he was ineligible for the Victory Medal.

Discharged at 5th Military District 29 Feb 1920.


Post War

Victor resumed working for the National Bank on 16 Feb 1920 and lived on the corner of Cook and Fairway, Nedlands with Sarah Ann Electoral Roll entries: 1925 - 31 at 10 Croyden street, West Subiaco; 1937 company secretary at 150 Brisbane street, North Perth (no Sarah); 1943 at Orange road Darlington , Company Secretary, (with Edna Isobel [second wife ??] who died aged 74 on 16 Mar 1980).

Sarah Anne James died in Warwick 3 Oct 1984, aged 84.
