Pre War

Between 1916 and 1921 James attended the Beenup (Byford) School, leaving in 1922 to undertake an apprenticeship in Fitting & Turning.

Electoral Roll entries: 1931 - 1937 at Byford, Machine driver; 1943 at Byford, labourer.

During 1936 James married Jean Fielding (1915 - 2015).Jean died on 13 Jan 2015, aged 99 in Merriwa. They had three children including Barrington James Brockwell (1936 - ), and Leslie R Brockwell (1941 - ).

War Service

James enlisted in the 2nd (Fremantle) VDC Battalion at Armadale on 22 Mar 1942. His Army Number was changed on 6 Jan 1943 from W67614 to W62441. Along with the rest of his unit James was transferred to the Reserve on 1 May 1945.


Post War

Electoral Roll entries: 1949 at Byford, labourer; 1958 at Prospect road, Armadale, fitter; 1968 at 74 Upton street, St James, fitter; 1972 at 245 South West highway, Armadale, fitter; 1977 - 1980 at 30 Helen crescent, Byford, fitter. He was placed on Reserve on 1 May 1945, and struck off the Army list on 15 Oct 1945 when the VDC's were abolished.
