War Service
Henry entered camp on 29 Sep 1915 and on 16 Oct 1915 was allocated to A Company of the 4th Depot Company for training purposes. This changes on 1 Nov 1915 when he is a member of A Company of the 3rd Depot Company, and finally on 4 Jan 1916 to the 14th reinforcement draft for the 10th Light Horse Regiment. On 9 Dec 1915 he was reported to have been in the Camp Clearing Hospital.
While Henry's records took four months after enlistment to record him being allocated to the 14th draft for the 10th Light Horse Regiment, he was in a photo dated 17 Nov 1915 of members of that draft. He travelled with them to Egypt and was caught up in the reorganisation of the AIF that took place before troops left for France.
Henry was reallocated to the 4th Division Ammunition Column on 7 Apr 1916, and posted to No. 3 Section. Shortly after, on 5 Jun 1916 in Serapeum, Egypt he was charged with being on land of a private tenant with intent to steal melons - awarded 28 days field punishment. Henry entered France from Egypt at Marseilles aboard SS Oriana on 13 Jun 1916 having sailed from Alexandria on 6 Jun 1916.
In late June he was mustered as a Driver, but then spent from 16 Aug until 22 Sep 1917 in the 49th Field Ambulance, 53rd Casualty Clearing Station and 39th General Hospital in France with Gonorrhoea. The total period of ineffective service was 38 days.
Rejoining his unit on 27 Sep 1917, a year later on 28 Oct 1918 he had been promoted to Bombardier. Granted leave in England from 8 - 24 Nov 1918, and again on leave in Jan 1919 when he took his leave in Brussels.
Left France on 21 Mar 1919 for the UK on his way home to Australia.
Discharged 5th Military District 7 Sep 1919.
