After 10 weeks training at Blackboy Hill camp, Henry is allocated to the 15th reinforcement draft for the 11th Battalion and he travelled with them to Egypt.
Soon after arrival in Egypt he was transferred to the 51st Battalion, with whom he travelled to Marseilles in France.
On 29 Sep 1916 he was detached to 4th Division Base Details in Étaples and two days later was transferred again, this time to the 4th Australian Division Sanitary Section.
Returned from leave 1 hour late and drunk on 4 May 1918, and lost 3 days pay for the hour, and was admonished for the drunken state. He went to hospital the following day, and was with them sick for 4 days.
In Feb 1919 he was returned to Australia with "Debility" given as a reason for the priority given to his return.
Discharged 5th Military District 8 May 1919.
Post War
Electoral Roll entries -1925 living at the Perth Hostel, 198 William street, 1936 as a dairy hand at 'Thornlee', Spring road, Kenwick; 1937 & 1943 a farm hand at Capel. In 1949 Henry is shown to be a pensioner living in Byford, but in 1954 he was at Ambergate, south of Busselton. Death entry gives his age as 81 in 1955. Never married.
