John's service was in three different forms: from 23 Dec 1941 until 16 Apr 1942 he was a full time member of the VDC. On 17 Apr 1942 he becme a member of a Garrison Battalion, and then on 3 Jun 1942 he was enlisted into the Australian military Forces.
