Stanley was born in Victoria on 6 March 1875..  His father was James Alfred Roberts and his mother was Marion Roberts (nee McMurtie).

Stanley married Cathleen Roberts (nee Hamilton)in Perth in 1901. They had three children Eileen Marion born 1902, Grace Gwendolynne and Joy (Marjory Hamilton).

According to the electoral roll Stanley had 7 acres on part of Lefroy Road Kelmscott, later renamed Roberts Road.  The house was built in 1903. His occupation from 1895 until 1937 was with the West Australian Government Railway.  He later became an orchardist growing loquats, larges loquat orchard in the state.

Stanley was the Chairman of Kelmscott Progress Association, Chairman and Life Member of the Kelmscott Agricultural Society, a life Member of the Railway and Tramways Institute.  He was also secretary of the Church of England Church and church Warden and member of Synod.

He obtained pine trees from the State Nursery at Hamel which now form the row opposite the Kelmscott Post Office.  These pine trees were planted by the local school children.

Forever with the lord our precious mother.
