Pre War
Electoral Roll entry: 1943 at Brookton road, Roleystone, telephone operator. Mavis had worked at the Roleystone Post Office as a Telephone Operator (Her father was the Post Master)
War Service
Mavis enlisted at the No. 4 RAAF Recruiting Centre on 22 May 1942 and was mustered as a Telephone Operator Trade Group V. The following day she was posted to No. 4 Initial Training School RAAF at Victor Harbour in South Australia to undergoe basic drill training. On 6 Jul 1942 Mavis was posted to No. 9 Elementary Flying Training School RAAF at Cunderdin, and remained there until 23 Aug 1944. During that time she was remustered as a Trade Group IV Telephone Operator on 29 Sep 1942, and promoted Acting Corporal on 1 Aug 1943, and then Temporary Corporal from 1 Dec 1943. Mavis had completed an NCO's course between 31 Jan to 5 Feb 1944.
Her next posting was to No. 5 Initial Training School RAAF at Clontarf from 28 Aug 1944 until 26 Oct 1945 when she was transferred to RAAF HQ WA enroute to No. 5 Personnel Depot RAAF on 23 Nov 1945. Mavis was discharged on 29 Nov 1945.
Post War
During 1946 Mavis was a member of a musical group in Roleystone known as 'The Hilarions'. On 5 Feb 1949 Mavis married another member of the group, Phillip Herbert Martin DFC & Bar at St Andrew's church in Perth. They had four children, Deb, Anne, Glenda and Owen.
