Brian's original CMF enlistment was in 21 Sep 1940 at Victoria Park, and he was allocated to the [[10th Australian Light Horse Regiment ww2]]. On 10 May 1941 he was discharged fom the CMF in order to enlist in the 2nd AIF. On 15 May 1941 he was sent to No. 1 Training Battalion at Northam and on arrival he was sent on pre-embarkation leave from 17 - 23 May 1941. On 24 May 1941 he was posted to the 3rd Training Battalion which was at the time preparing men comprising the 7th reinforcement draft for the ''2/32 Australian Infantry Battalion''. On 25 Jun 1941 Brian was charged with haveing been AWOL from Midnight 23 Jue until 8:00pm on 26 Jun 1941. For this he was awarded 3 days Confined to Barracks, and the automatic forfeiture of a days pay.
