War Service

Following preliminary training Charles was allocated to the 6th reinforcement draft for the 51st Battalion on 3 May 1916, but on 10 Jun 1916 he was transferred to Artillery reinforcements. Following further training he was sent to Maribyrnong in Victoria for more specialist training, and on 12 Oct 1916 was allocated as a Driver to the 7th Field Artillery Brigade.

On arrival in England he was sent to the 4th Division's No 21 Camp at Lark Hill for further training, before on 9 May 1917 proceeding overseas via Folkestone.

On arrival in Étaples France, Charles was transferred to the 4th Division Ammunition Column at Rouelles. On 25 Aug 1917 he moved to the 11th Field Artillery Brigade at Kemmel south west of Ypres, Belgium as a Driver and he remained with them until he returned to Australia.

He was granted UK leave on 10 Feb 1918 and again on 23 Nov 1918.

Discharged 5th Military District 25 Aug 1919.

Post War

Electoral Roll entries - 1921 assurance superintendent at 362 Bagot road, Subiaco; 1922 - 1925 Surf Tea Rooms, Swanbourne terrace, Cottesloe a tea room proprietor; 1931 - 1958 farmer at "The Homestead", Lake Grace. Emily died 11 Apr 1959 aged 74
