On 25 Sep 1944 he was detached to the [[26th Australian Prisoner of War Control Camp]] at Liverpool (NSW) which was administered by the [[21st Australian Garrison Company]]. On 21 Nov 1944 Stefano was admitted to the Manning River District Hospital with a comprehensive fracture of his left thumb. Stefano's rank of Sergeant was confirmed on 9 Dec 1944, and on 10 May 1945 Stefano was transferred to [[NSW Line of Communication General Details Depot]] who then passed him on to [[Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot]] where he arrived on 23 May 1945 to prepare for discharge.
