Pre War

On 13 Jan 1933 David had married Mary Louisa Dyson (1915 - 1973). Mary died on 15 Jan 1973, aged 57 in Armadale. They had two children, including Harold David Pumphrey (1934 - 2015)

War Service

On 22 Apr 1942 at Armadale, David enlisted in the Volunteer Defence Corps and was initially allocated to the 3rd (Swan) VDC Battalion's "H.V" Compnay, transferring to the 2nd (Fremantle) VDC Battalion on 28 Feb 1943. Along with many others his Army number was changed on 6 Nov 1943 from W69565 to W62243. 17 days later (23 November) he was discharged.
