Pre War
On 24 Oct 1941, George married Rita May Culloton (1919 - 1999) in Guildford. Rita died on 20 Mar 1999 in Byford.
War Service
On 1 may 1941 George had sought to enlist in the 2nd AIF, but was rejected as too unfit. However, on 24 Apr 1942, at Pickering Brook, George enlisted in the Volunteer Defence Corps, and was allocated to 2 Platoon, 'A' Company, 12th (Jarrah) VDC Battalion. At Pinjarra on 1 Oct 1943 George was discharged at his own request.
