Robert was called up on 8 Mar 1941 for part time service, and on 10 March he was taken on strength by the 122nd Reserve Motor Transport Company's 'C' Section. On the 24th he was admitted to the 110th Australian Base Hospital, before being released to duty on 1 Aug 1941. Robert was granted three months leave without pay from 3 Sep 1941 - 3 Dec 1941.
