During 1937 Shirley attended the Byford School and had completed the 4th Year.
War Service
On 31 Dec 1943 Shirley enlisted in the Australian Women's Army Service at Claremont, and on 6 Jan 1944 she was sent to the 6th AWS Training Company n Claremont. At teh end of the month she was transferred to 25th AWAS Barrack on Rottnest Island. On 11 Nov 1944 Shirley was transferred to HQ Coast Artillery Fremantle.
