Enlisted in Armadale on 26 May 1942. Australian Archives have not yet scanned his records, but they mention his unit as the General Details Depot, Australian Military Forces and contain an entry for a Court Martial held on 17 Aug 1943, with his discharge taking place on 25 Oct 1943.

On 5 Aug 1942 Bill was posted to teh [[13th Australian Infantry Training Battalion]] at Northam, and on 10 Aug 1942 he was posted to the [[10th Light Horse Regiment ww2]]. On 6 Sep 1942 he was charged with having Left a place of parade without permission leading to him being awarded seven days Confined to Barracks.
