Brief History
Created as the 10th Australian Infantry Training Battalion as a result of a re-organisation of training unit sin January 1942. It was aligned with the 10th Infantry brigade and was intended to produce reinforcements for its units. It moved with the Brigade HQs to Balcombe following its formation. In March 1942 the Brigade concentrated at Watsonia, but after moving to Queensland, it was disbanded in September 1942. 10th Infantry Training Battalion then transferred to the 23rd Infantry Brigade Group which was then based in the Northern Territory to provide their reinforcements. As a result their designation changed to 23rd Australian Infantry Training Battalion. In April 1943 the 23rd Training Battalion was attached to the 2nd Infantry Training Brigade, and it moved to Bathurst in NSW, ahead of the decision to centralise all training at Cowra from October 1943. The 2nd Training Brigade including the 23rd Australian Infantry Training Battalion then move to Canungra to provide specialised jungle training before its final move to Greta in March 1945 where they were disbanded.
