Pre War
Twenty five year old Edward arrived in Fremantle aboard the SS Oronsay on 23 May 1939. They had left London on 22 Apr 1939, and Edward was listed as a Chemist from Poland. His brother Leon worked for the WA Public architect, in the Public Works Department. He had graduated in Poland with a Batchelor of Chemistry and in France had received a Diploma in Natural Science.
War Service
On 11 Jul 1942 at Armadale, Edward enlisted in the Volunteer Defence Corps, and was allotted to the 12th (Jarrah) VDC Battalion. On 7 Feb 1944 he was one of many who received a new Army number with W61920 replacing W85048. Along with the rest of his unit he was placed in the Reserve on 31 Jul 1944. His Discharge Certificate (never collected) gives the more formal date of discharge as 15 Oct 1945 when all VDC units were disbanded.
Post War
Electoral Roll entries: 1949 at 30 Longroyd street, Maylands; 1954 at 188 Tarleton street, East Devonport, officer; 1972 at 6 Hooper crescent, Mount Stuart, Tasmania, officer. Between 1949 and 1954 he had married Ilse.
Notes
At the time of his death in Victoria Edward was listed as a scientist.
