Began his training as a general reinforcement, but on 9 Nov 1942 he was transferred to the AASC Training Depot. On 13 Dec 1942 he was charged with Conduct to the prejudice of good order and military Discipline for which he was fined 10/- ($1). On 2 Jan 1943 he was transferred to the 8th AASC and later to Transport training units before on 17 Apr 1943 being posted to the 138 General Transport Platoon where on 1 Jul 1943 he was deemed proficient. From 9 until 29 May 1944 he was in the 110th Australian Base Hospital (Perth) with conjunctivitis, and again he was with them from 30 Jun until 11 Jul 1944. On 2 Aug 1944 he boarded MV Koolinda for Port Hedland disembarking there on 6 Aug 1944.
ON 17 May 1945 he was transferred to No 1 Base Depot in New South Wales for reassignment and after changing base units several times he boarded the SS Ormiston in Brisbane on 18 Aug 1945 for Lae in New Guinea where he disembarked on 24 Aug 1945. On his arrival he was sent to the 18th Australian Field Ambulance. On 15 Oct 1945 his posting changed to the 2nd/7th Australian general Hospital, and then on 29 Dec 1945 to the 102nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station. Another change was to come with a shift to the 2nd Australian Field Ambulance on 11 Feb 1946, before his discharge in New Guinea at his own request on 19 Feb 1946.
Post War
Married Verna June Birch (1929 - 1986) in Perth during 1954. They had two daughters and two sons. Electoral Roll entries: 1958 - 1980 at 59 Mars street, Carlisle, truck driver.
