Early Life
Thomas Henery (Henry) Chedzey, known as Harry, was born on 26 February 1907. Harry arrived in Armadale from Moora in April 1930. He settled on the east side of Eight Road, where he lived till 1953. He then moved across the road to where he had built a new house on land that he had cleared and planted a citrus orchard in about 1939.
Marriage
Harry married Ivy Cull in March 1936 and they raised five daughters.
Property
Harry sold the orchard at the end of 1962. He then built a house in Railway Avenue, Kelmscott and moved in April 1963. He lived in Kelmscott till his death in September 2003.
Community Contribution
Harry and Ivy's social life revolved around the Westfield Hall and school tennis court.
Work life
In late 1963 Harry started work for the City of Armadale. He was caretaker for the halls and then the gardener. He retired in 1972. He was a ratepayer in the Shire for approximately 73 years.
Mis-spelt street
Chidzey Drive was named after Harry. At the time of writing 2010, the spelling was being corrected to be 'Chedzey drive'.
