Pre War
War Service
Robert was called up on 8 Mar 1941 for part time service, and on 10 March he was taken on strength by the 122nd Reserve Motor Transport Company's 'C' Section. On the 24th he was admitted to the 110th Australian Base Hospital, before being released to duty on 1 Aug 1941. Robert was granted three months leave without pay from 3 Sep 1941 - 3 Dec 1941. However, his records note that on 6 Oct 1941 he had completed a 90 days camp at Karrakatta, and that he was then called up for full time service on 9 Jan 1942. However, on 19 Jan 1942 he was posted to Area to be held by them while he was granted 2 months civil occupation to complete a contract.
Robert was discharged on 24 Mar 1942, deemed to be providing an essential service.

Robert had married Lorna Elizabeth Rodgers (27 Nov 1919 - 12 Jun 1981) during 1942. They had three children: William, Terrence and Leonie. In 1949 Robert took over the running of the family farm (Benalla farm, Cranbrook) following his father's death in late 1948.
