War Service

Bert joined up with his older brother Victor Henry Jones. Their next of kin had lived in Armadale from 1912 or earlier, with the boys working on farms away from home at time of enlistment. On enlistment Bert gave his address as Post Office Brookton.

Trained with the 6th Depot Squadron before being allocated to the 17th reinforcement draft for the 10th Light Horse Regiment. On arrival in Egypt Bert entered their Reserve Regiment on 17 Jun 1916 at Tel-el-Kebir. However, on 1 Sep 1916 he was transferred to the Imperial Camel Corps at Abbassia, and on 21 Sep 1916 joined the No 3 Company, 1st Battalion.

In Feb 1917 he spent the first four days with the Imperial Camel Corps Field Ambulance at El Arish suffering with diarrhoea, before transferring on 4 Apr 1917 to the 3rd Battalion's No 12 Company in the outpost line at Abasan-el-Kebir.

Post War

Electoral Roll entries - 1921 Bruce Rock, contractor (with brother); 1925 - 1954 farmer at Mukinbudin (1925 - 1934 with brother).

1926 married Esther Mary Rowe. Esther in 1958 - 1977, was at 12 Saunders street Swanbourne; before she died 17 Aug 1982 in Claremont aged 87.

Son Laurence V Jones from Sunnyside farm, Mukinbudin wrote in 1940 seeking his father's unclaimed medals.
