Entered Blackboy Hill camp on 8 Mar 1916 and on 4 Apr 1916 was allocated to the 13th reinforcement draft for the 28th Battalion.
On arrival in Plymouth, England, he was sent to the 7th Training Battalion at Rollestone to prepare for the front in France. On 23 Oct 1916 he was admitted to the Fargo Military Hospital with Bronchitis, period unknown, before being again admitted to hospital on 20 Dec 1916.
In the meantime he had been debited 5 pence (4 cents) for loss of kit. On 19 Apr 1917, after a second visit to hospital, he was released to the No. 2 Command Depot at Weymouth from the Harefield Hospital, to prepare for a return to Australia with Asthma.
Discharged 16 Aug 1917 at 5th Military District.
Post War
Married Leila Veronica Pratt in Northam in 1918. Leila died 24 Nov 1983 aged 83 in Mt Lawley. Children Lance Aleck Charles (1918 - 24 Sep 2011); Alby or Grace,and Dulcie. Electoral Roll entries - 1925 - 1943 at 14 Market street, Guildford, a carter
