Brief History
First formed in early 1941 as the 8th Military District Training Depot to supply reinforcements for Port Moresby and Thursday Island it moveed to Toowoomba in late 1941 and to Selheim in April 1942 where they were renamed New Guinea Line of Communications Area Training Depot'. In July their name changed again to New Guinea Force Advanced Reinforcement Depot, coninuing to supply reinforcements to New Guinea and the Torres Strait.
In June 1943 their name was changed to 5th Australian Advanced Reinforcement Depot and in December 1943 it was expanded to eight Companies, absorbing the 3rd and 4th Advanced Reinforcement Depots. In Decenber1944 they moved to Wacol in Brisbane and in May 1945 became the 5th Australian Reinforcement Depot continuing in their role until the end of the war.
