Prior to being mobilised on 15 Nov 1940, Kenneth had been a member of the Reserve Remount Troupe. He was allocated to the [[9th Auxiliary Horse Transport Company]].  On 22 Nov 1940 he was appointed as a Lance Corporal, and eight days later on 30 Nov 1940 he was promoted Corporal before attending an Instructional Course in Geelong, Victoria. He returned to Western Australia on 7 Mar 1941 and on 19 Mar 1941 he was posted to the [[10th Australian Garrison Battalion]] on Rottnest. On 19 May 1941 Kenneth was admitted to the [[Rottnest Camp Hospital]] with a strained knee joint, returning to duty on 24 May 1941.
