David enlisted in the 2nd AIF on 23 Oct 1940 at Claremont and was sent first to the Recruit Training Depot at Ascot on 25 Oct 1940. On 25 Nov 1940 he was transferred to the No. 3 Training Battalion at Northam, and on 27 Nov 1940 he was posted to the [[2/4th Australian Machine Gun Battalion]]. On 4 Dec 1941 David was placed on a train for Perth, arriving on the 6th and marched in to the [[Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot]]. On 9 Dec 1941 David was admitted to the [[110th Australian Base Hospital]] for treatment ofr Rheumatic Fever. WHile in hospital, David was AWOL from midnight on 28 Dec 1941 until Midnight 4 Jan 1942. Guilty, he was fined 5/- (50cents), and forfeited 7 days pay. (Total loss was 42/- [$4.20]). On 5 Mar 1942 David was released to the [[109th Australian Convalescent Depot]]. Recovered, he was discharged as 'Medically Unfit, not occassioned by his own default' on 10 Apr 1942.

Pre War

19 year old David, who came from 20c Paddock street, Calder, Coatbridge, emigrated to Australia from London on 6 Jan 1927 aboard SS Berrima, disembarking in Fremantle on 14 Feb 1927. In 1933 at Bruce Rock David married Esmee Hooper (1910- 1962)

War Service
