On 25 Mar 1943 Don was sent on an Intelligence training course before changing his enlistment on 30 Jun 1943 to the 2nd AIF. On 8 Jan 1943 Don had been medically re-assessed as Class A1. Two days later he was transferred to the [[113th Australian General Hospital]] until 3 Jul 1944 when he was released to the [[103rd Australian Convalescent Depot]]. War Service

Don was initially enlisted in the Volunteer Defence Corps, but on being called up for full time service on 11 May 1942 he was promoted Acting Sergeant and then on 29 May 1942 transferred to the 29th Australian Garrison Battalion's North West detachment at Port Hedland. On 1 Dec 1942 he was posted to Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot for re-assignment which necessitated him reverting to the rank of Private on 9 Dec 1942 when he was posted to the 10th Australian Light Horse Regiment ww2.


On 25 Mar 1943 Don was sent on an Intelligence training course before changing his enlistment on 30 Jun 1943 to the 2nd AIF. On 8 Jan 1943 Don had been medically re-assessed as Class A1. On 17 Jul 1944 he was admitted to the 68th Australian Camp Hospital and on 25 Jul 1944 he was released again to 103rd Australian Convalescent Depot.
