Pre War
Stephen departed London for Fremantle with his parents on the SS Orsova on 12 May 1911, arriving in Fremantle on 13 Jun 1911.
On 12 Feb 1929 Stephen married Gladys Mary Gordin (1906 - 1982). Mary died in Mandurah.

War Service
On 22 Mar 1942 Stephen enlisted full time in the AMF (Militia) as a general Reinforcement, and was allocated to the 2nd (Fremantle) VDC Battalion. On 1 Jul 1942 he was appointed a Lance Corporal in 'D' Company. On 6 Nov 1943 his Army number was changed from 464652 to W62262. Two days later he was promoted Bombardier before being placed in Reserve on 1 May 1945
