Enlisted at the Recruit Reception Depot at Claremont, and 10 days later on 16 Aug 1940 he was sent to the Melville Training Depot.  On 23 Aug 1940 he was admitted to hospital with meningitis, and was not released to his unit again until 26 Nov 1940. On 3 Dec 1940 he was sent to the Recruit Training Depot at Northam camp, and the next day transferred to No. 2 Depot Battalion. He was examined by a medical board on 19 Jan 1941 who recommended discharge which occurred on 24 Jan 1941.

Post War

During 1950 Wilfred married Nardi Svicarovich in Perth. Nardi died on 23 Oct 1987 in Gosnells, aged 64.
