Remarks

Named after a Member of the US House of Representatives from Pennsylvania who died in office, she was a Standard design Liberty ship, Hull No 2252. Laid down on 28 Sep 1943, she was launched 19 days later on 16 Oct 1943.


Her first voyage was from San Francisco to Townsville in November 1943. For the next 20 months she plied between Australian ports and Australian and US troop bases in New Guinea and surrounding islands with occasional journeys to San Francisco.
