James Laurence Taupin lived for only two months, before passing away in Armadale on 28 December 1906. He was buried the following day on 29 December in the Anglican section of Kelmscott Public Cemetery.
Young James' father, Laurence Taupin of Collie, had been left widowed after the death of his wife Gertrude on 14 November 1906, only a few weeks after James' birth at Collie hospital.
Gertude Maude Taupin was 34 when she died. Her parents (James Taupin's maternal grandparents) were Matilda and James Oldfield of Doodlakine. Gertrude had a sister in Armadale (Mrs Gouldthourp) with whom the infant James had been staying while his father Laurence was grieving back in Collie. James' death while living in Armadale with his Aunt explains his burial at the Kelmscott Public Cemetery.
