Brief History

Beginning life as a camp workshop in mid-1943 at Tolga in Queensland, it worked with units on the Atherton Tableland. In December the unit was expanded and was renamed 3rd Australian Advanced Workshop. The workshop expanded its role from having an armaments section, a wireless and signals equipment section and an instrument section, to include two armoury sections, a machine shop, extra instrument and vehicle sections, a vehicle recovery section, a mobile gas generating section an engineer equipment section and an area workshop section. The unit continued to operate from Tolga and Edmonton for the rest of the war.
