Brief History

4 Line Section AIF was in Toowoomba Queensland in June 1942 when it split to form the 13th Australian Line Section and the 14th Australian Line Section. The 13th Line Section worked on line projects in central Queensland, based for a time at Gayndah before undertaking a number of projects in south Queensland working from bases at Dalby, Thangool, Eidsvold and Gayndah before returning to Toowoomba in November 1943. In April 1944 they moved to Torres Strait for projects on Thursday and Horn Islands. As a result of a reorganisation of signals units they moved to Bonegilla in July 1944 where they joined 1st Independent Signals Group, then moving in order to Balcombe and Strathpine in Queensland during October. 13th Australian Line Section moved to the staging area on Morotai in June 1945 to join with C Detachment 22 Line of Communication Signals which landed at Balikpapan in July. They remained there until the end of the war.
