==Pre War==
During WW1 Walter had served with the British cavalry in France. On 4 May 1924, a 31 years old shoeing smith Walter Charles Cann arrived in Fremantle aboard the ''SS Borda'' from London with his wife Gertrude (29).

==War Service==
In Armadale on 22 Mar 1942 Walter was taken on strength by 'D' Company of the [[2nd (Fremantle) VDC Battalion]]. Promoted Sergeant on 14 Jul 1942, Walter was discharged on 13 Aug 1944 at his own request after 2 years, 145 days service.

==Post War==
Electoral Roll entries: 1949 - 1968 at Marmion street, Kelmscott, labourer; 1972 at 52 Schruth avenue, Kelmscott, retired. Gertrude had died in Kelmscott on 5 Oct 1975, aged 81
