A US Liberty Ship named after an early American Journalist and first editor of the Los Angeles Times, Charles Fletcher Lummis. Laid down on 13 April she was launched on 5 May 1943. From the begining she was designated as a troop ship and was fitted out for that purpose immediately after her launch. FHer log book that commenced 30 Oct 1943 and indicated that her home port was Mobile, Alabama.
Her first voyage was from Los Angeles to Hobart, and then on to Karachi and Milne Bay in PNG. According to newspaper reports of her launching she was either the 162nd or 182nd Liberty ship built by the California Ship-building Corporation. USAT Charles Lummis was scrapped in 1965 at Portland, Oregan.
Armament - Stern-mounted 4-in (102 mm) deck gun for use against surfaced submarines, variety of anti-aircraft guns.
