==Brief History==

At the time the 2nd AIF was formed in late 1939,  a recruit training depot was established at the Exhibition Grounds in Brisbane to receive , induct and commence the training of recruits before they went to their units for more specialised training. Withthe growth in the number of men in uniform, the depot moved to Redbank in May 1940, and a separate '''Northern Command Reception Camp''' was established at the Exhibition Grounds. By December the unit had expanded and was known as '''Northern Command General Details Depot which included a ''Transit Company'' to handle units and individuals passing through Brisbane; a ''Recruit Reception Depot'' to process recruits; and a ''District Discharge Depot'' to administer troops returnoing from the Middle East for discharge.

In January 1942, in response to Japan enteering the war, the unit expanded and was renamed Queensland Line of COmmunication Area General Details Deapot. A large unit, it was split in September to form a separate recruit handling unit at the Showgrounds and a Leave and Transit Depot at Ascot. The General Details Depot then joined the Leave and Transit unit at Ascot. In February 1943 the units at Ascot moved back to Redbank, and in Febraury 1944 they amalgamated with the Recruit Reception Depot to form '''Queensland Line of Communication Area Recruit Reception & General Details Depot. They moved to Wacol in August 1945 leaving the section that handled discharges behind to become the '''Queensland Line of Communication Area Recruit Reception & General Details Depot'''.
