Brief History

The No.4 Command Depot was established at the Worgret Hill camp, Wareham on 26 Oct 1916. Its role was to receive men from hospitals and convalescent camps considered fit enough to be able to return for service on the front within three months. They did, however, receive some who subsequently were sent home to Australia via Weymouth as unfit, or sent to the Overseas Training Brigade at Perham Down from mid 1917. For much of the war years it had 7,000 men attached.

The Depot moved to Codford in June 1917 and then to Hurdcott in November 1917
