Frederick Wilfred Salter lived in Kelmscott until his untimely death at 8 years of age on 19 August 1908. Sadly Frederick appeared to have drowned in the Canning River, where his body was found after a search by many townspeople, following his disappearance.

Frederick's mother was a lady named Ellen Best. She married Samuel Salter Jr who was apparently her second husband and she was Samuel Salter's second wife. The pair divorced at some time around 1900-1901.
