Brief History

Once it had been recaptured in early 1943, Buna was developed transshipment port in support of the attack on Lae. Bun Battery was established in November 1943 to provide control for 'D' Heavy battery at Sanananda Point and 'O' Heavy Battery at Cape Endaiadere. By February 1944 these p[ositions were no longer required, with 'D' heavy Battery moving to Port Moresby to take over Bootless Battery and 'O' Heavy Battery moved there to take over Boera Battery
