Brief History

This unit was formed at Guildford during August 1942 as a headquarters unit to manage all the ammunition depots in WA. The headquarters moved to Ardath in the W.A. wheatbelt, and by November of 1942 they had sub-depots at Springhill, Booran, Ardath, Guildford, Mullewa, Perenjori, and Wongan Hills. The 3rd Mobile Ammunition Repair Shop was formed to work with them. In January 1943, the Guildford, Mullewa, Perenjori and Wongan Hills sub depots became Forward Ammunition Depots and left the unit, leaving Springhill, Ardath and Booran sub depots with the HQ unit.

Depot HQ moved to Guildford in February 1943 with Ardath remaining as a sub depot. The Booran sub depot closed in late 1944, but the rest of the unitremained on reduced scale until the end of the war.
